Cawker City is famous for more than its ball of twine, though it seems to me that would have been enough. Along US Hwy 24, known locally as Wisconsin Street, you will find many original and outstanding examples of architecture, and Wisconsin Street is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Cawker City is also home to the oldest church pipe organ in Kansas, housed in the United Methodist Church. Built by Henry Pilcher's Sons of Louisville, KY, it is typically English in construction and features painted pipes with "Victorian Stencil" designs, and it can be pumped by hand or winded by an electric motor. We were not able to see the organ when we visited. The locals assured us it'd still be there on our next visit.
