Our cocina starts out as a bare room, with our visions to give it life. After much research and decision-making, we agreed with the Mexican people in this part of the country... it'd be no fun at all to build beautiful wood cabinets only to have them devoured by termites, so we scrapped that idea and called in the Muro Block experts. Huh? Yah, they had to explain it to us, too. Muro block is a very durable building 'block' made of resins, silicone and cement, grooved on all sides so that it fits together with a tongue and groove. Hmmm, sounds interesting, huh? First step is to plan the placement of cabinets, because once they're built of Muro Block, they aren't going to bend or move. The lines you see on the walls are where cabinet walls and shelf will be on that side of the kitchen. The raised platform is the base, also made of Muro. It'll be covered in white tile under the sink, which will sit under the window, overlooking our cochera (courtyard carport) and the street in front of our casa.
